The Weight of Responsibility
New Novel Tells of Teenage Struggling with Love, Family and Religion
ST. Michael, Barbados – Since he was a child, Peter Crawford has been burdened with much more than any
young boy should be. Now, as he prepares to turn 18, he must deal with the transition to adulthood and a
tumultuous family life in A.M. Linton’s new novel, Torn Between Love, Religion and Responsibility (now available
through AuthorHouse).
One day, when he was very young, Peter returned from school to find his mother wielding a knife. She was
hysterical and did not recognize him. After she realized she had tried to attack him, she checked herself into a
mental hospital. Peter moved in with is father, stepmother and half-siblings. This frightening event forced
Peter to grow up much quicker and become a mentor to his siblings, especially his younger brother, Paul.
Now Peter is on the verge of entering the adult world, which forces him to make decisions that will shape his
life forever. He struggles with taking care of the children in his house while his father spends nights drinking.
He tires to be a role model while he questions his own worth, although Paul believes he could not live
without his older brother. Emotionally distraught about his religion, Peter wonders if he has fulfilled a promise
to God to God that he made years ago.
For a teenager, Peter must tackle decisions that few 17-years-olds face. Torn Between Love, Religion and
Responsibility is about the effects of those decisions and what happens when one stage of life ends and
another begins.
Linton lives with her husband and daughter in Canada. Her short stories have been published in a
newspaper in Barbados. Torn Between Love, Religion and Responsibility is her first book.
